TOEIC หรือ Test of English for International Communication เป็นข้อสอบวัดทักษะทางภาษาเพื่อการสื่อสาร โดยจะเน้นไปในบริบทการทำงานในสำนักงาน ดังนั้นเนื้อหาในข้อสอบจึงจำลองมาจากสถานการณ์ที่พบได้บ่อยๆที่ทำงาน เช่น การทำนัดหมาย การอ่านประกาศ หรือการเขียนอีเมลล์ บริษัทส่วนมากไม่กำหนดเกณฑ์แน่นอน แต่หากมีคะแนน TOEIC และยิ่งสอบได้คะแนนสูงๆ จะมีโอกาสได้งานมากกว่า หรือบางบริษัทก็ให้ค่าตอบแทนพิเศษ เกณฑ์คะแนน TOEIC ระดับทั่วไปจะอยู่ที่ 550 - 750 หากได้คะแนน 750 ขึ้นไปถือว่าคะแนนสูง
